1. Objective

Definition:
A specific, measurable result that a project aims to achieve.

Simple Meaning:
Project ka clear goal kya hai.

Example:
Plate mill me High Pressure Descaling System install karna within 6 months — ye project objective hai.


2. Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS)

Definition:
A hierarchical representation of project team structure and reporting relationships.

Simple Meaning:
Kaun kis ko report karta hai — team structure chart.

Example:
Project Manager → Site Engineer → Supervisor → Technician (Bhilai Steel Plant project structure).


3. Operational Readiness

Definition:
The state when a project or system is ready for actual operation.

Simple Meaning:
System ready hai actual use ke liye.

Example:
Pump installation, alignment, testing complete hone ke baad descaling unit operational readiness achieve karta hai.


4. Opportunity Cost

Definition:
The value of the best alternative that is sacrificed when choosing one option.

Simple Meaning:
Ek option choose karne par dusra jo fayda miss ho gaya.

Example:
Agar aap bike servicing app start karte ho instead of industrial project, to jo salary/earning aap chhodte ho — wo opportunity cost hai.


5. Outsourcing

Definition:
Hiring an external party to perform project work.

Simple Meaning:
Kaam bahar ki company ko dena.

Example:
Laser cutting job ko external vendor ko dena instead of in-house fabrication.


6. Overrun (Cost/Time Overrun)

Definition:
When a project exceeds its planned budget or schedule.

Simple Meaning:
Project me extra time ya extra paisa lag gaya.

Example:
Foundation delay hone ke kaaran erection delay hua — project me time overrun ho gaya.


7. On-Time Delivery (OTD)

Definition:
Completion or delivery of work as per planned schedule.

Simple Meaning:
Time pe kaam complete karna.

Example:
EDM/laser cutting machine supply vendor ne 12 weeks me deliver ki — that is good OTD.


8. Order of Magnitude Estimate (ROM)

Definition:
A rough cost estimate usually with ±25% to ±50% accuracy used in early stage.

Simple Meaning:
Initial rough budget estimate.

Example:
New descaling pump system ka rough estimate 2–3 crore (ROM stage).


9. Organizational Process Assets (OPA)

Definition:
Company’s existing processes, templates, lessons learned, and data used in projects.

Simple Meaning:
Company ke ready-made formats, past experience, templates.

Example:
MACO Corporation ke previous project documents, checklists, commissioning formats.


10. Operational Risk

Definition:
Risks arising from day-to-day project operations.

Simple Meaning:
Daily kaam me hone wale risk.

Example:
Heavy equipment erection ke time crane failure risk.


11. Output

Definition:
The result or deliverable produced by a project activity.

Simple Meaning:
Kaam ka final result.

Example:
Pump installation ka output = fully aligned and tested pump system.


12. Overhead Cost

Definition:
Indirect costs required to run a project but not directly tied to specific tasks.

Simple Meaning:
Indirect kharcha (office, supervision, electricity etc.).

Example:
Site office expense, supervisor salary, electricity — ye sab overhead hai.


13. Optimization

Definition:
Improving efficiency to achieve best results with minimum resources.

Simple Meaning:
Kam resource me best output lena.

Example:
Manpower planning optimize karke erection work fast complete karna.


14. Owner (Project Owner)

Definition:
The person or organization who funds and owns the project.

Simple Meaning:
Jisne project ka paisa diya aur jiska project hai.

Example:
Bhilai Steel Plant = project owner
MACO = contractor


15. Off-site Work

Definition:
Project work performed away from the main site.

Simple Meaning:
Site ke bahar kiya gaya kaam.

Example:
Fabrication shop me structure banana (before installation at plant).


16. On-site Work

Definition:
Work performed at the project location.

Simple Meaning:
Actual project site par hone wala kaam.

Example:
Pump erection and alignment at Plate Mill location.


17. Overlapping (Fast Tracking)

Definition:
Performing project activities in parallel to reduce project duration.

Simple Meaning:
Ek saath multiple kaam chalana to save time.

Example:
Foundation curing ke saath-saath structure fabrication start kar dena.


18. Ongoing Project

Definition:
A project that is currently in progress.

Simple Meaning:
Jo project abhi chal raha hai.

Example:
Refinishing Complex Project in Universal Rail Mill = ongoing project.


19. Out-of-Scope Work

Definition:
Work that is not included in the project scope.

Simple Meaning:
Contract me jo kaam include nahi hai.

Example:
Client ne additional pipeline ka kaam bola but contract me nahi tha — that is out-of-scope.


20. Operational Excellence

Definition:
Achieving high performance through efficient and effective operations.
